About

DESIGNING A SOLAR PROJECT WITH THE COMMUNITY IN MIND

Aviation Energy Center is a utility-scale solar project exploring siting options in the Xenia, Cedarville, and Miami Townships of Greene County, Ohio. As we consider locations and feedback, the team is committed to a range of 300 to 500 ft setbacks from Little Miami Watershed and its tributaries, any public road, residential property line, state park, or public land.

ENERGIZING THE ECONOMY

Aviation Energy Center is estimated to generate millions of dollars in additional tax revenue for Greene County over the project's 40-year lifespan, bringing new resources for schools, hospitals, and other public services. But the benefits to the community don't stop there. We are also committed to fostering local business growth through our Regional Business Partner Program, which will engage local companies in various aspects of the project. Aviation Energy Center will be working with local and regional partners when feasible, throughout the development process, and is seeking expression of interest from local companies and individuals. By aligning ourselves with local businesses, we aim to create a network of collaboration and shared success that extends far beyond the solar panels.

SOLAR POWER - CLEAN, AFFORDABLE ENERGY FROM THE SUN

ENERGY STORAGE - PROVIDING ENERGY ON DEMAND

Energy storage is becoming an integral part of our electrical infrastructure. The ability to store energy and release it when needed is vital to delivering a secure, reliable, modern electricity system that supports existing businesses and economic development. Harvesting solar energy and storing it also helps reduce or avoid price spikes and supply shortfalls.

Many of the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) operating across the country today use lithium-ion (Li-ion) technology. Li-ion batteries are already commonly used in a wide range of consumer devices such as laptop computers, cellphones, toys, and handheld power tools, as well as in electric vehicles. BESS has the potential to make a meaningful contribution to a low-carbon electrical grid.

ENERGY STORAGE DELIVERS A MORE RELIABLE - AND SUSTAINABLE - GRID

In a secure and reliable electricity system, grid operators depend not just on electricity, but also on power plants that offer critical services such as frequency regulation and voltage support. The role of energy storage is indispensable in this scenario, with its ability to release power on demand. By strategically incorporating storage systems in key locations, the grid's strength is reinforced, bolstering its resilience. This proactive approach significantly reduces the risk of blackouts and enhances overall reliability.

MAXIMIZING THE SUPPLY OF CLEAN, AFFORDABLE, RENEWABLE ENERGY WITH BESS

Electricity, without a power storage solution, must be consumed immediately upon generation. Our Country’s electrical grids are carefully managed by grid operators to ensure a perfect balance between supply and demand. Normally, this equilibrium is achieved as operators instruct power plants to adjust their electricity production, often minutely. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) provide these operators with fast, on-demand power when required.  In addition, BESS enables the storage of extra power generated during the daytime, which can be dispensed when demand increases in the evening hours, effectively mitigating supply shortfalls and avoiding price spikes.
